Since the majority of the Covid-19 restrictions ended on 24 February 2022 and free lateral flow tests ended for many on 1 April 2022, the UK Government has recently released guidance in relation to managing Covid-19 in the workplace. This guidance was released, and came into force, on 1 April 2022. The guidance applies to England only.  

It’s April and that means increases to the financial thresholds for various employment law calculations – including a week’s pay for statutory redundancy payments.

As the nation faces a cost-of-living disaster, Chancellor Rishi Sunak delivered his 2022 Spring Statement, the main points of which we have set out below. 

On Monday 21 February 2022, the Prime Minister made an announcement to the public confirming that the majority of the Covid-19 restrictions would on 24 February and outlined his plan for ‘living with Covid-19’.  The announcement to end all legal restrictions applies to England only. Restrictions remain in place in other parts of the UK. 

We spend most of our time at work, whether that be in the workplace or more recently as a result of the pandemic, via the internet and zoom. With all this time to chat and get to know colleagues, it comes as no surprise that romance has become commonplace in the modern workplace.

Several proposed employment law changes have taken a back seat during the pandemic. However, it is hoped that we will now get some clarity on these as we continue through the year.

The Government announced that all Plan B measures will be lifted. These measures had originally been introduced back in December 2021 in an attempt to tackle the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

The global pandemic has drastically changed how many organisations and its employees work as they were forced to adjust to a new way of working. This new way of working had a number of consequences such as the need to find ways to ensure businesses could continue, trying to retain jobs and also dealing with feeling lonely, disconnected and out of control.

Approximately 208 employers have been named and shamed by the Government in December 2021 for failing to pay their employees the minimum wage.
